IPBootCamp Regional provides a complete framework for establishing a core IP strategy and portfolio.
Using a streamlined but comprehensive analysis that follows our Big Bang Model for Ip Formation, you will get hands on experience in the process. We use a mini-case/lessons learned sequence to explore how to start an IP centric company. Examples will be drawn using the licensing model. You will find that whether you go with a platform program directly to your selected sweet spot customers, or actually pursue your vision thru licensing, the hurdles that a licensing model set as bar incrase your probability of success and give you both options.
The -Big Bang Theory- will be used as a way to look at the time line in taking an idea from concept thru the steps of reduction to practice, prototype, and licensed royalty bearing commercial distribution. The barriers to licensing large corporations will be examined by taking a close look at a typical idea submission agreement. The steps that bridge the inventor/founders goals to successful licensing outcomes will be analyzed with real world examples from the process. A hands on mini-case allowing you to see how to file your first series of patent applications will be provided:
-the patent rubric will be examined and the trade secrets of this tried and true model for invention submission will be revealed
-the criteria for expedited filing will be looked at and the implications for filing provisional patents and converting provisionals to utility patents will be discussed
-the place of provisionals in the timeline and their role in setting up a license option program will be outlined
-the -chicken and egg- problems inherent in getting the first license and the first commercially distributed product will be identified and alternatives will be shown
-the formation of license options, licenses, and strategic alliances will be assessed in the context of segmented licenses, non-exclusive and exclusive licensing
-cost saving best practice tips in preparing and filing utility patents and trademarks will be offered using real world examples from the BinderBuddies platform
-when and how to engage with outside counsel and the best format for exchange of critical invention disclosure will be analyzed
-the difference between interference and infringement will be explored and ways to use the interference procedure to get your product to market discussed
-how to protect the privacy of your claims during the initial phase of licensing will be shared with a look at when to release the right to privacy in your claims
-the role of international patents in your overall licensing strategy will be prioritized in light of the recent steps in the harmonization of world wide patent laws
You will learn:
--A comprehensive approach for identifying, articulating, developing, communicating, & exploiting IP
--Better prioritize that part of your IP that is worthwhile protecting
--Discover a simple reusable process for establishing an IP pipeline
--Employ IP discovery and mining as a means for enhancing employee creativity
--Use the IP framework to improve functional interfaces between R&D, Engineering, and Product Marketing
--Establish a cycle that enables better budget plans and synchronizes expenditures with other business systems
HOW YOU WILL LEARN:
The regional IP bootcamp will employ a "quick start" combination of direct exercises, interactive participation, effective streamlined media for conveying key points, reusable templates for conveying various portions of the framework, mini-case studies to exemplify key take aways, and good old fashion question and answer.
David will share an approach that defines a set of tasks comprising a <14 day process over a 2 to 3 month period> to get real patent applications out of the pipeline. You will discover how this multi-step process, using proven techniques, templates, and check lists each step of the way can ensure a repeatable and sustaninable approach.
David will set forth criteria and employ templates that are intuitive and designed to yield a /pre-provisional patent application/ that meets full utility patent requirements. You will find out how to secure a patent application that can be filed and examined on its merits with a higher likelihood of allowance at the lowest possible cost in outside legal fees.
You can employ this method to support any patent application opportunity in any field of use that you encounter in your business. As your business grows, a well defined and executed IP business process will allow you to employ technology in the form of on-demand software applications to further lower your cost of doing business in this application.
